My History
Candy is a longtime Maui resident. She has worked as a professional fitness trainer in California, Hawaii, Europe, Asia, Japan and Indonesia.
Candy has over thirty-five years experience coaching, teaching and instructing physical fitness and lifestyle changes. She focuses her training on the education of individuals in methods that will increase their quality of life for themselves and loved ones. Everybody is different so their personal training program must be varied and tailored to each individual needs. This is why her training is so extensive. This enables her to keep clients interest and introduce many varied methods of activity to complete a full and rewarding training program. Candy has worked with many post surgery clients and those challenged with Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis M.S. Inquire today to get fit, have fun and stay healthy.
Candy began her career by training with 1968 Mexico City Women’s Olympic Swim team. She started her first Fitness business shortly after. She coached and instructed courses for swimming and various water sports supporting her through College at San Diego State University. She completed her Primary Teaching degree while attending at the University of California San Diego. It was in San Diego 1971- 1973; she started studying yoga at the Self Realization Fellowship Yoga Institute Escondido California and soon began teaching. Always an adventure and travel enthusiasts, Candy came to Hawaii in 1972. She vowed to return and continue her career in teaching exercise, yoga and health education. She returned to Hawaii to reside following her graduation, married and had two sons.
She lived abroad and helped establish a school in Bali Indonesia 1975. Upon her return to Hawaii she pursued her yoga training with Yogiraj Sri Swami Satchidananda in Kipahulu Maui Hawaii. 1976–1978 she built her own Private Yoga studio in Kula, Hawaii and taught couple and pre and postnatal yoga. She was trained and certified through the Maui Child Birth association to teach Prenatal Lamaze Birthing and pre and post natal Yoga. In 1980 – 1982 she taught Health and Physical Education at the St. Anthony High School on Maui and began an Aerobic Dance program. In 1980 – 1985 Candy helped direct the Aerobic program for the YMCA – Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii and became an Aerobic Instructor at the Maui Marriott Resort, Kaanapali, Maui, Hawaii. In 1985 Candy returned to her teaching of water sports forming her own company Reef Seekers. She taught Hobby Cat Sailing, wind surfing and did snorkeling tours for the Hawaii State Nature Conservancy Society. She studied with leading marine biologists through out the Pacific.
Once she returned to teach on land again she pursued her personal education. In 1996 she began focusing her studies on Pilates. Her Pilates education began with the Physicalmind Institute using The Method and Mat work of Joseph Pilates. Studying with Maria Leong of Bodyline Studio of Beverly Hills Candy became certified in 1998 through the Physicalmind Institute #25030. In 1999 she began studying Yoga with Linda Shelton founder of AFAA’s Mat Science I and II and fitness editor for Shape Magazine. She also began studying with Beth Shaw founder and owner of Yogafit. She became Yogafit and Mat Science I and II certified. She became certified with the Aerobic Fitness Association of American for the following: AFAA Primary Aerobic Teaching Certificate , AFAA Pre & Post Natal Exercise Instructor, AFAA Aquatic Aerobics Instructor, AFAA Step Aerobics Instructor Certificate #60302, AFAA Kickboxing Instructor Certificate #94334, AFAA Personal Exercise Trainer Certificate #PT557‑2, AFAA Kickbox Examiner and an AFAA Continuing Education Provider.
She began personal training in 1997 with referrals from physicians to help create exercise programs for stroke victims. She again pursued more education to work towards a second BS degree in Kinesiology Exercise Science at Humboldt State University, Humboldt California. She lectured at Humboldt State University and became certified with the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health and Fitness Instructor and Licensed # 12131. She continued to work in Fitness Clubs in California and Hawaii as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, yoga instructor, and nutritional consultant with APEX organization Certification No. 4741A. Other certifications held by Candy are as follows: Precision Cycle group cycling certified, Mad Dog Johnny G Spinning certification, Turbo Kick Boxing certified, REP Reebok and Reebok Coreboard certified, and Urban Rebound certified.
